Two weeks ago El Paisano reported that the Rio Hondo Women's soccer team was ranked number one in the Foothill Conference. They have played a couple of games since, and have been able maintain their position.

Hondo has scored 17 points in conference games, the closest competitor, Victor Valley, only scored nine, but the two teams are matched in overall wins for the season.

Victor Valley only trails by two wins, but they might be able to scare one off of the Roadrunners during a rematch on Holloween. Early in October, Hondo shut-out Victor Valley 3-0.

The squad on the hill has also been able to advance five places in the statewide ranking, from 32 to 27, trailing local schools like number nine Mt. SAC and the number one Cypress College. However, the Roadrunners are still one ahead of Citrus College and a few more ahead of East Los Angeles.

As far as goals are concerned, Hondo is ranked number three in the conference, and 37 in the state. Of the 27 goals for the season, 20 of them were split between Jessica Macias, Sandra Gonzalez, and Brittney Rast. Gonzalez has been able to score nine goals for the season and is ranked number two among competitors in the Foothill, and 51 statewide.

This serves as statistical evidence that the Roadrunner's game isn't a quantity over quality one. It shows that the team has a cleaner more skilled game than the rest in the conference.

Victor Valley is the highest scoring team in the conference, and should be seen as a threat on Oct. 31.

A couple of Fridays ago, the Lady Roadrunners stole a 2-0 win off Mt. San Jacinto who is 2-11 for the season.

Despite a couple of close calls, San Jacinto was able to keep the Roadrunners from getting on the board until the second half, with Gonzalez scoring, and Macias shortly after.

This past Friday, Hondo battled it out and won 2-1 against number five in the Foothill, the Antelope Valley Raccoons. The Raccoons were at times overwhelmed by the Roadrunner offense, and resorted to kicking the ball off the field, rather than to defend and progress.

Rast and Gonzalez were able to score early, Rast went for seconds but was muted after a long battle with the Raccoons' defense.

Rio played a super clean game until the final minutes when the Coons summoned the strength and answered back.

After Holloween's Victor Valley rematch, Rio Hondo has three more games before playoffs begin.
