Roadrunners qualify for SoCal Championships
Martinez and Espana earn first team All-Conference

The Rio Hondo College men's cross country team qualified for the Southern California Championships with a third place finish at the Foothill Conference Championships on Oct. 26, at Victor Valley College.
Rio Hondo finished behind San Bernadino Valley College, which is ranked number one in the state, and Antelope Valley College.
Freshman Ruben Martinez, led the Rio contingent with a fifth place finish, and a time of 22:29 on the four mile course.
The overall winner was Sam Melton from San Bernadino Valley College in a time of 21:42.
Martinez was followed by fellow freshman Chris Teran and Guillermo Flores, who finished in 14th and 15th place.
Team captain, Michael Flores, finished 16th, and sophomore Cain Cortez rounded out Rio Hondo's scoring athletes with an 18th place finish.
The Roadrunner suffered a huge blow when Javier Herrera was unable to finish. His status for next week has yet to be determined.
The lady Roadrunners also competed, and for the 7th consecutive week were led by sophomore, Eloisa Espana. She Finished the 5k course in 6th place, which was good enough for first team All-Conference.
Next week, Espana will join the men's team along with freshman, Theresa Miramontes who finished a surprising 12th place.
The Southern California Championships will take place at Antelope Valley College Saturday.
The men's team will be seeking its first trip to the California State Championships since 1978, which was the same year Rio Hondo last won the conference championship.
