Once again a new metal scene has hit California. From Sweden, Therion is a prog-goth, operatic metal band that was formed twenty years ago.

Therion performed a show to a filled Key Club in Hollywood on Oct. 17.

Therion is out on tour in support of their new dual disk release Gothic Kabbalah. Gothic Kabbalah was released back in February on Nuclear Blast. The tour will cover 13 shows in three countries in 19 days.

Therion consists of several studio musicians and touring musicians. The band members are Christopher Johnsson (Guitars, Keyboards), Kristian Niemann (Lead/ Rhythm Guitars), Johan Niemann (Bass) and Petter Karlsson (Drums).

Some of the session members are Snowy Shaw (Choral Vocals), Hannah Holgersson (Choral Vocals), Katarina Lilja (Solo/Choral Vocals) and Thomas Vikstrom (Solo/Choral Vocals).

The show was perfect for the middle of October. The gothic vibes and the operatic vocals set the perfect mood for this time of the year. Therion displayed stamina in the two hour performance, along with a mix of vocal capabilities from male and female singers to sooth your eardrums.

Some of the songs performed that night from Gothic Kabbalah included, " The Falling Stone" and "The Perennial Sophia" along with "Son of the Stoves of Time" and "Tuna 1613". The performance of these tracks brings you right into the CD and the sound was better than anything that comes out of your home speakers.

Therion provided catchy drumbeats by Karlsson and a crossbreed of guitars that makes you wonder how they perfected the sounds.

The visual part of the performance involved capes and fur boots over black clothes under different colored lights. The crowd's response was well to this type of mystical Swedish journey.

Therion provided elements of operatic metal that were recreated in the live performance that will excite any audience. The band produced a show that will leave your musical vision in disarray.

Keep your ears open for a new release by the band in 2008.
