Basketball teams finish their seasons

Rio Hondo's men's and women's basketball teams finished out their seasons last week with the women's team finishing sixth in the Foothill Conference and the men's team seventh.

The women's team lost its final game to Mt. San Jacinto, 66-60, to drop them to a 6-10 conference mark and a 16-15 overall record. The men's team finished the conference season 5-9 and had an overall record of 9-21.
Women

Amanda Ragains scored 17 points and Amy Gutierrez added 16 more as the Roadrunners defeated Cerro Coso in a close 67-66 cliffhanger last week.

The Roadrunners were tied 33-33 in the first half and then outscored the Tigers 34-33 in the second.

Champaign Hood added 11 points and Elena Agabao had 12 to help give the Roadrunners the win.

Three Roadrunners scored in double figures against San Bernardino Valley College, but it wasn't enough to pull out a win.

San Bernardino won the game 81-70 even though Regains netted 17, Agabao had 15 and Hood had 10.

The Roadrunners were down 48-27 at the half, but outscored San Bernardino 43-33 in the second period, but it just wasn't enough.

Antelope Valley defeated the Roadrunners, 75-46, in a game played Feb. 9 at Antelope Valley.

Agabao led the Roadrunners with 13 in the game and Hood and Yanet Enriquez each added 10 points.

Rio was only down by nine after the first half, 32-23, but was outscored by 20 in the second period, 43-23.
Men

Rio Hondo surprised Antelope Valley Feb. 9 by handing them its first conference loss, 61-57, with Adam Roses and Jawan Davis each scoring 14 points.

The Roadrunners took a 32-20 halftime lead in the game and then held on to win the game.

Antelope Valley came on to outscore the Roadrunners 37-29 in the second half, but it wasn't enough.

Helping out in the scoring was Daryl Jones with 11 points, Kevin Branch with nine and Rushon Haralson with eight.
