Congresswoman Grace Napolitano met with Rio Hondo administrators on March 19 to discuss the college's priorities for the near future.

Dr. Martinez's initial invitation to the congresswoman included lunch, however, Napolitano's busy schedule allowed for a brief meeting with President Ted Martinez, Jr., Director of Government and Community Relations Russell Casteñeda- Calleros, and Board Member Gary Mendez.

The group discussed projects and events that the college has planned for the near future, including the upcoming president's gala, changes and enhancements to the Environmental Science Curriculum, Rio Hondo's Transportation Program "Go Rio," and discussed opportunities for increased funding for the Fire Academy's Wildland Fire Program.

Following the meeting, Congresswoman Napolitano was given a quick tour of construction areas for the propose Learning Resource Center around the business building.

Congresswoman Napolitano's last visit to the campus was in Feb. of 2007.

Director Casteneda-Calleros commented that Congresswoman Napolitano's office and Rio Hondo College have maintained a close relationship over numerous years in a combined effort to keep Rio Hondo College progressing towards a more modern, eco-friendly, educational facility.
