Amanda Brown's photograph "Sad Clown" is an ironic portrait playing with the idea that clowns are always happy.

On Monday May 11, Rio Hondo opened the art gallery for the end of the year student art show. The student art show for this year was named "Too cool for school." The student art show gives a chance for a select number of students to showcase their work, which has all been juried by the Rio Hondo Visual Arts Faculty.

Prior to the opening of the art gallery, the Rio Hondo Art's faculty presented awards to 15 students who were a standout throughout the year. Among some of the awards given were theatre art student of the year David Ingle, and outstanding vocal student of the year Felicita Garcia.

A rough estimate of about 200 people were present to see the opening of the "Too cool for School art gallery." A huge turnout!

As you step into the gallery it is noticeable that there is a lot of artwork present, photographs, drawings, and paintings can be seen coming from every direction

My favorite drawing of the gallery is from Robert Garcia "Numbers 5, 7 & 9."

In his drawing there are a total of 6 different sheets of paper, on the left side sheets are the numbers 3, 5, 8 and on the right side are the numbers 5, 7, 9, formed by the shape of a human skeleton.

As I circled the gallery in awe of every piece of artwork present, I landed my eyes on a photograph that was taken by Amanda Brown.

The photograph was named "Sad Clown." Which is a photograph of a man who has clown features painted onto his face. Given a chance to meet Amanda she said, "My photograph is a mimic, because clowns are always happy."

The end of the year art show is something you definitely will not want to miss out on.

The art show will be displayed here on campus in the Rio Hondo Art Gallery from May 11- July 31.

If you have some free time or would just love to appreciate some fine artwork, make your way down to the art gallery. It will not disappoint.
