On Monday May 11, Rio Hondo College Performing Arts Department held the Student Showcase, here at Rio Hondo's very own Wray Theatre.

The student showcase gave the Rio Hondo students a chance to perform their talents and skills they have learned throughout the year.

A total of ten different performances were showcased throughout the night. Many students, friends, and family members were outside the doors long before they opened, waiting eagerly to get inside and see the show.

As the show started, the huge audience was thrilled and applauded. The show started off with a play "The Twelfth Night" written by William Shakespeare.

The students performed Act 2 Scene 4 from the play, a total of 7 students were part of the play. The play went really well, a great mixture of music from the violin and the acting made it wonderful.

The show continued on with some more music, this time it was Ruth Cortez playing the piano. Cortez played a piece from the song "Solfeggietto" By Bach. It was a very fast performance, which went perfect with the fast melody of the piece.

The show continued on with a performance by The Shadow Box. Immediately following the Shadow Box, was a guitarist who played two amazing solo's. Rio Hondo's guitarist Juan Sixto played "Pavana # 3 by Luis Milan." For his first solo. Following his first solo he then played 'Prelude #3 by Hector Villa Lobos, Prelude # 3 a powerful performance. Sixto's second solo was one of my favorite performances of the night being very slow with powerful strums of the guitar.

After the crowd stopped clapping for Sixto's amazing performance, the show continued on with a scene from "As You like it, Act 3 Scene 2." Followed by another guitar performance from Felipe Lara who performed "Nocturne by Johann Kaspar Mertz"The show ended with a performance from the Rio Hondo Singers who performed "Cant Buy Me love" and "In my Life" by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
