Have you ever chased a dream, and forgot about the important things; and it isn't until you hit rock bottom that you remember what's really important? This is exactly what happens in 'Rudo y Cursi' when two brothers from a small town Tato and Beto, reach success as soccer players and along the way forget their brotherly bond and are consumed by rivalry.
Tato played by Gael Garcia Bernal, is nicknamed "Cursi" for his baroque style of playing soccer, and although he is talented on the soccer pitch; his real passion is becoming a famous singer. While his older brother, Beto on the other hand is nicknamed "Rudo" for his crude personality and style of playing soccer. While both brothers become successful on the pitch their inner demons start taking a toll on their success and bond.
Tato blows every opportunity of becoming the best soccer player he can be due to chasing the dream of becoming a renowned singer, while Beto's gambling gets so out of control that it can lead to him losing his soccer career. Although the movie does emphasize the brothers overcoming obstacles there are plenty of laughs to be had in this movie. Whether it's the way that Luna expresses himself verbally, or Gael Garcias non-existing singing abilities; the brothers' climb to success serves up the audience with a ton of laughs.
Rudo y Cursi teams up Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna since there last appearance together in "Y tu Mama Tambien". Although they have both separately taken on great roles, seeing them together as Tato and Beto in "Rudo y Cursi" is refreshing. Both of them have impeccable comedic timing, but although the movie is packed with laughs both Garcia Bernal and Luna serve up great performances when their characters try to conquer their inner demons.
This is a movie you should definitely watch this summer, it has tons of laughs, and a great message. And girls even though the majority of you are going to watch the movie to see the handsome duo of Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, don't shy away from taking your boyfriends with you since the movie offers great soccer scenes and lots of comedy.
