Calling all transferring students!

As the semester is coming to an end students are stressing about upcoming finals or rushing to catch up on classes they've been ignoring, but for all you transferring students there is much more to think about!
That's right along with finals, commencement ceremony, and making plans for next fall you have to make sure you are following the transfer process correctly. In case you are behind it is not too late, there is so much you need to do. First thing is first, the school has to know you would like to attend! Intents to register will be due soon!
For UCs the deadline is June 1st. The dates are all different for Cal states and any private institutions, so check on that right away.
Next if you haven't already, go online and apply for financial aid. FAFSA and different scholarships are waiting to be claimed, and if you are taking out any loans there is a lot of extra paperwork to be completed.
A very important step that students must not forget is to schedule an appointment with a transfer counselor to make sure you are Cal State general education or IGETC certified. After finishing all that, it is time to start getting to know your new school.
Make plans to attend an orientation, there you will receive help with registration, get a chance to see the school, and meet other future students and receive help on registering. Since four year universities do not have counselors you are on your own!
So before you start the fall make sure to set up a meeting with the advisor in your specific major. Keep in mind that colleges ask to see final transcripts go check the deadlines for that and any final paperwork that is missing. For information on that it is necessary to contact the school personally. Now you must ask yourself a quick question "have I dropped or changed any classes this semester?" If so, RUN! FAST!
Contact your school right away and let them know of the change in your schedule. This can affect your admission. And the very last step is probably the most important, PASS ALL YOUR CLASSES!! Many students tend to focus on their acceptance to the school, and neglect the classes they are enrolled in. Don't be one of those students! Just because you're admitted does not mean your admission can not be reversed.
So make sure you are passing all of your classes and spend these last few weeks studying to finish the semester successfully!
For any further questions visit the transfer center and ask for Dianne Martinez or Jose Lara. There will be two upcoming NEXT STEPS Workshops on May 21. The first is for CSU transfers from 1-2pm, then following will be for UC transfers from 12-1pm. Both will be held in the Board Room A102. All transferring students are welcome to attend.
