Doppelganger's exhibit lacks meaning and metaphor.

During the start of the Fall Semester, Rio Hondo's Art gallery hosts an unusual exhibit entitled "Doppelganger".

The concept behind this exhibit is that everything has an evil counterpart waiting in the shadows. According to many folk legends, when the doppelganger emerges it is an omen of forthcoming bad luck or tragedy.

While this may have been the desired effect, the artist's intent seems to be buried behind a heap of pretty trash.

The show is made up of a small number of art pieces that barely seem to have any artistic vision. They consist of broken plastic forks, hardened plastic pouches, and a replica of a quarts rock.

The pieces themselves had some visual appeal, but beyond that any meaning or depth remains unseen.

Typically and exhibit places plagues next to or on the artists work with the title of the work and the medium used to create.

Again, this remains to be seen, and with its absence, leave any chance for metaphoric meaning.

Even more interesting is the fact even students with an artistic background, both classical and conceptual, have a difficult time understanding what it is the exhibit is trying to convey.

It seems disheartening to kick off the fall semester with such an uninspiring show.
