Rio Hondo's Wrestling team won the Western State Conference Saturday, Nov. 7; this is Rio Hondo's fourth straight conference title.
All Conference first Team winners were, Matt Orona at 141; Jesse Cruz at 149; Nick Inclan at 174; and Anthony Gonzalez at 286. All Conference second Team winners were, Jesse Rosete at 133 and Anthony Meza at 197.
Rio Hondo's first match was against West Hills College in Lemoore, they won 39-9. Second round was against Bakersfield College and won 25-19. Their final dual was against Cuesta College and managed to defeat them 33-17.
"This was the first time all year that we had our best team take the mat. The wrestlers stepped up and wrestled well," said Mike Tellez, Rio Hondo's wrestling coach.
Since then, the Roadrunners have had two meets since then and results are still unknown. The Roadrunners played in the Santa Rosa duals on Nov. 13, and on Nov. 14 they traveled to the San Francisco Tournament held at San Francisco State. After the San Francisco Tournament the Roadrunners will go to the California Open Tournament held at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday Nov. 21.
After the Roadrunners get through November, they will have the Southern California Regionals at East Los Angeles College on Dec. 5, and possibly State Championships on Dec. 11-12 held at Chabot College in Hayward.
